The Indian government has made it clear that generative AI companies must get permission to train on copyrighted work.
This is a great move, and one that balances the interests of AI companies and rights holders. They're not saying AI shouldn't be supported - they're just saying AI companies should pay for the resources they use, like every other industry. This will pave the way for responsible AI development in the country.
I hope regulators in the US, UK and elsewhere will take note.
