Now, it seems that Ukraine may at least signal that it would agree to never join the alliance.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is no longer pressing for NATO membership for his country,
while he also said he is open to "compromise" on the status of Luhansk and Donetsk in the Donbas region,
the two breakaway pro-Russian territories that Russia recognized as independent just prior to its invasion on Feb. 24.
