I did travel extensively but sorry, the Japanese build really ugly urban towns and cities. Osaka is a nightmare of polluted industrial concrete.
Of course we can travel to the ocean and the mountains, and yes they can be nice. I meant that in day to day life the urban Japanese streets are really ugly.
Maybe you don't see it and it can be up to each persons aesthetic. Concrete is concrete after all but in my 10 years there I found that there seems to be little sense of humanity in their modern architecture.
It is interest that a society that has so fine a sense of traditional design falls so low when faced with non-Japanese applications to daily design. It really is an amazing contradiction. On the most part, they have very bad taste, just look around your neighborhood.
But maybe you just don't notice.
